Zermatt is easily accessible by train: from Geneva-Cointrin in approx. 4 hours, from Zurich-Kloten in approx. 3.5 hours and from Milan-Malpensa in approx. 3.5 hours.
In Visp, you will need to transfer from the international train connections to the narrow-gauge Matterhorn-Gotthard Bahn that will take you through the ruggedly-romantic Visper and Matter valley towards Zermatt in only 60 minutes.
Once you have arrived in Zermatt, you will find the valley station of the Gornergrat Bahn situated directly next to the railway station. During the brief 23-minute trip you will pass by tranquil stone pine forests and fragrant Alpine meadows as you travel up onto the Riffelberg.
